The Dual Monitor amplifier is the star of the Focal Power line. Enormous amounts of time and care have been dedicated to its research and development. The dual mono design, the
oversized power supply and the output stage with 6 high quality transistors have produced an amplifier which stands out for exceptional quality and performance. Its capacities of strength, dynamics, detail and soft sound will pleasantly surprise even the most discerning user. It is compatible with the best systems, even those which have low levels of impedance.
The typical setup and use of a conventional high-end amplifier is often frustrating, as their versatility is limited and much time is wasted in complicated adjustments. Finding one with
the required capabilities can be difficult as there are numerous DSP’s on the market, yet they are often quite limited in terms of acoustic quality and ease of use.
The Dual Monitor integrates two powerful DSPs, both capable of executing 180 MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second). One processor takes charge of managing the different signals to the amplifier, and the second one can pilot an additional amplifier via the auxiliary outputs. The power of these next generation DSPs’ allows one to carry out a myriad of operations without adversely affecting the signal. With its A/D and D/A converters operating at 24-bit /96kHz., the signal/ noise ratio and its dynamic capacities are exceptional.
Focal Dual ManagerAnother important innovation is the Focal Dual Manager PC software that is supplied with the amplifier. It allows one to control all the DSP’s functions and can be updated through the Focal website, thus allowing the user to benefit from all the latest developments. An unlimited number of configurations from the software can be memorized on the computer. The controller included enables you to control the most important functions of the equipment, and can also be used to select one of five different configurations you have uploaded onto the amplifier from the PC.
A few of the adjustment possibilities offered by the Dual manager software program: The hi-pass, lo-pass, band-pass filters can be freely modulated from 6 to 24dB/octave, the cut-off frequencies, can be selected on the nearest Hz. Two filter types are offered: Linkwitz-Riley or Butterworth. In order to achieve an exceptional, exact and centered image, all the channels can be delayed in order to obtain an optimal temporary alignment. The input signals can be equalized on 30 bands. The frequency, Q factor, the level and even the filter type (peak, low shelf, high shelf ) can be configured for each cell of the equalizer. Moreover, thanks to its two coaxial or optic digital inputs, this amplifier is ready to work on car stereos equipped with a digital output.
Dual Mono ConstructionThe dual mono construction directly offers a superior level of fidelity. The main advantage of this design is having a very limited channel crosstalk. The separation between the power supplies of the channels also avoids any interference between one channel and another. The acoustic result is a very strong and real sound. The stereophony effect is longer and the spatial resolution is extremely precise.
Oversized ComponentsThe six 5000 series Toshiba® transistors chosen for the power stage offer remarkable characteristics. The oversized case enables the component to dissipate 150W in order to operate at high temperatures without altering the sound quality. The high transition frequency (30MHz) permits the transmission of the highest frequencies, as well as providing an extremely fast transient response, thus providing perfect respect of the original low level signal. This translates subjectively into great sonic sweetness. The MOSFET power transistors, which have a current capacity of up to 110A each, offer an optimum response to high power demands. This enables the power supply to support the highest musical peaks (generally low frequencies).
